Ann M. Nancarrow, 89, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Ewing, daughter of William Raymond and Mae (Taylor) Kirkpatrick. She married Harry L. Nancarrow on April 30, 1946, in Kalamazoo, Mich., and he preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1997.
Ann belonged to the Cadet Nurses Corps and became one of the first registered nurses at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization).
She is survived by three sons, William L. Nancarrow and wife Kathryn of Mancelona, Mich., Steven F. Nancarrow of Mt. Vernon and David M. Nancarrow of Farmers Branch, Texas; two daughters, Kae M. Herman and husband Dennis of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Kris A. Nancarrow of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren, Jill Kahn and husband Jason of Indiana, Patrick Herman of Kalamazoo, Mich., Eric Herman and wife Amy of Brookline, Mass., Christina Nancarrow and Thomas Nancarrow of Houston, John Nancarrow and Paul Nancarrow of Farmers Branch, Texas, Kyle Wilson Nancarrow of Mt. Vernon and Chad Nancarrow of San Diego; two great-grandchildren, Braylon Kahn of Indiana and Mia Lynn Nancarrow of Bluford; sister, Elizabeth Wittaker of Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, William Kirkpatrick.
In honor of her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church or to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
