MT. VERNON — —
Larry Dean Bliffen, 63, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at his home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Wednesday, July 27, 1949, to Jack and Shirley (Miller) Neal Bliffen.
Larry served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, was a supervisor at the Florsheim Shoe Store, and was a state supervisor for Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was a member of Turner Roehm AMVETS Post #4 in Mt. Vernon, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 and Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. He was an animal lover, avid baseball fan and a member of the Christian faith.
He is survived by a son, Chad Bliffen and Kim Mann of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Emily Timmons and husband Justin of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Cadin, Briella and Faye Bliffen, and Chase, Cole and Brenna Timmons; two sisters, Jackie Doxsie of Ewing and Shelly Bravard and husband Lonnie of Opdyke; a brother, Michael Neal and wife Tonyia of Ina; lifelong stepfather, Mike Neal of Ina; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
His mother; one sister, Marilyn Kay Neal; and one granddaughter, Addison Bliffen, preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Woodlawn with Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Woodlawn with members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 according full military honors.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
