Clarence Roland Schmitt, 63, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 7:34 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
He was born Thursday, Aug. 11, 1949, in Mt. Vernon to Harry and Myrtle (Cambell) Schmitt.
Clarence delivered furniture for Newell Furniture in Woodlawn.
Clarence is survived by a son, Allen Schmitt of Herrin; three grandchildren, Cory, Preston and Gage Schmitt of Herrin; four brothers, Paul Schmitt and wife Alice of Mt. Vernon, Windell Schmitt of Utah, Larry Schmitt and wife Nora of Illinois and Carl Schmitt and wife Doris of Aurora; two sisters, Joyce Frazier of Mt. Vernon and Barbara Mooney of Mt. Vernon; several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents; one son, Jerrod Schmitt; three brothers, Leon, David and Wayne Schmitt; and three brothers in infancy preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Revs. Ron Reynolds and Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Opdyke.
Visitation will be held 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Mt. Vernon Baptist Temple and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
