Dallas Laur

MT. VERNON — — Stephen Dallas Laur, 81, passed away Dec. 1, 2012, in Benton, after a lengthy battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Dallas was born April 30, 1931, near Scheller to Charles Harrison and Hattie Clarissa Barnett Laur. Dallas was the youngest of their eight children.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donetia Bozovich Neal Laur of Benton; two sons, Nick and Sandy Laur of Benton and Mark and Lori Laur of Scheller; five grandchildren, Brian and Dana Laur and Erin and Chip Basso all of Scheller, Jared and Erin Laur of Evansville, Ind., Bethany Laur of Carbondale and Alyssa Laur of Scheller; six great-grandchildren, Reid and Reagan Basso, Delaney, Patrice and Banx Laur and Cooper Laur; and a sister, Mildred Kiselewski of Waltonville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Betty Darlene Piper Laur; four brothers, Clarence, Lester, Thomas and Joe Donald; and two sisters, Velma Kiselewski and Vera Bell.

Dallas was a member of Steel City Baptist Church. He worked as a welder at AO Smith in Granite City for 17 years until a permanently disabling car accident on Nov. 8, 1972. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing big watermelons, as well as watching horse races and Cardinal baseball games on television.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morton & Johnston Funeral HOme in Benton with the Revs. Karl Barnfield and Joe Zbinden officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Benton-West City Ministerial Alliance.
