Ruth A. Gant

Ruth A. Gant, 85, of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.



She was born on July 26, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Grover Flanigan and Halo Clark. She married Willie “Bill” Gant on July 17, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1993.



Mrs. Gant is survived by two daughters, DeElla Morgan and husband Bob of Joliet and Marcena Williams and Dale Nowland of Waltonville; four grandchildren, Holly Lawler and husband Jay of Joliet, Angela Platt and husband Jeff of Plainfield, Steven Morgan and wife Stephanie of Joliet and Keith Williams and wife Renee of Byrnes Mill, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jamie Lawler and Christian, Nathan and Logan Morgan all of Joliet, Brittany Laws of Iowa, Kameron Williams of Byrnes Mill, Mo., and Cody and Zach Reynolds of Byrnes Mill, Mo.; special friends Vi Pasley and John Ponsetti, both of Mt. Vernon; a special cousin, Marcena Riddle of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, William Flanigan; and sisters Marion Langenfeld and Anna Bourland.



Mrs. Gant worked at Webb and Harris as an abstractor until retirement. She was a former member of the First Christian Church in Centralia and a 69 year member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. She was also a member of Rebecca Lodge 296, Mt. Vernon Business and Professional Women Club and a Girl Scout assistant for 24 years.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.



Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
