Edna Chambliss

Edna Chambliss, 83, of Mt. Vernon, died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her home in Mt. Vernon.



She was born on Nov. 20, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Oscar and Lela (Smith) McKowen. She married Ronald E. Chambliss in Salem in 1954. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2003.



Mrs. Chambliss is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann Jones and husband Brad of Johnson City, and Jo Carol Woods of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Nolan McKowen and wife Mary of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Mark Donoho and wife Cara, Amanda Urbaniak, Crystal Dickneite and husband Brad, Bradley, Matt, Mark and Meagan Jones; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Joshua Urbaniak, Isis, Eres and Blaze Dickneite and Zared Donoho; nephews, Nolan Lee and wife Lisa McKowen of Geff, Christopher McKowen and wife Beth of Salem and Courtney McKowen of Mt. Vernon; and niece Mary Jane Musgraves and husband Larry of Fairfield.



In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronnie; an infant granddaughter, Jennifer Woods; and a sister, Lela Mae McKowen.



Mrs. Chambliss worked from 1969 until her retirement in 1986 at Mt. Vernon Township High School in the book room and was the school’s bursar.



She also enjoyed playing golf, bowling and playing cards.



Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Cemetery in rural Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Ron Reynolds officiating. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation and those attending the service on Saturday are requested to go directly to the cemetery.



For those who wish, memorials may be given to Hospice of Good Samaritan Hospital and will be accepted at the Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
