Phyllis Bergeson, 56, of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Friday, Aug. 28, 1953, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of John Abner and Juanita (Gossage) Phillips. She married Edward Bergeson Dec. 29, 1971, and he survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Tony Bergeson and wife Kathy of Mt. Vernon and Marine Gunnery Sgt. Steven Bergeson and family of San Diego; two daughters, Teresa Johnson of Richland Center, Wis., and Stacy Shirrell and husband David of Mt. Vernon; a brother, William Phillips and husband Janet of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Florence Logue and Laura Walker, both of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John Wayne Phillips, Thomas Phillips and James Phillips; and one granddaughter, Hope.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Chuck Ellis officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
