MT. VERNON — Darlene Ferne Ferguson, 85, of Woodlawn, passed away at 12:06 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010, at her home.

She was born in Jefferson County on Monday, Nov. 24, 1924, a daughter of John Lee and Susie (Coil) Harvey. She married Claude E. Ferguson on Nov. 23, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Woodlawn with the Revs. Merle Fullerton and Derek Downs officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Woodlawn.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the church.

Mrs. Ferguson is survived by two sons, Bob Ferguson and wife Wanda of Woodlawn and Ronal Ferguson of Cravat and special friend Sue Steele of Mt. Vernon; daughter-in-law, Jackie Ferguson of Dix; nine grandchildren, Brian Ferguson and wife Jennifer of Louisville, Ky., Darin Ferguson of Dix, Marcy Wingo and husband Brian of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Kenny Ferguson of Woodlawn, Kelly Clinard of Hendersonville, Tenn., Beth McConnaughy and husband Mark of Cravat, Rodney Ferguson and wife Janette of Cravat, Christy Kauffman and husband Shane of Loveland, Colo., and Brad Bushong and wife Kristen of St. Louis; a sister, Delores Rombough and husband Neil of Mt. Vernon; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; her husband; son, John Ferguson; great-granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Ferguson; three brothers; and three sisters preceded her in death.

Darlene was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Woodlawn and enjoyed wintering in Florida with her husband Claude after retirement.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
