The Rev. Larry W. Jones, 68, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born in Mt. Vernon on Saturday, Aug. 9, 1941, a son of Henry Edward "Bus" and Lorinda Irene (Wells) Jones. He married Glenda McCann on Aug. 10, 1959, in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Revs. Merle Fullerton and Eric Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The Rev. Jones is survived by his mother, Lorinda Irene Jones of Mt. Vernon; wife, Glenda Jones of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Sheri Lynn Jones of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Brandon Jones of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Tom Jones and wife Joyce of Copley, Ohio, and Terry Jones and wife Debbie of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Lawana Jones of Mt. Vernon, Darcel Jones of Mt. Vernon and Kathy Hart and husband Terry of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Gerald McCann and wife Diane of Las Vegas; two sisters-in-law, Janet Sue McKeever and husband John of Australia and Marge McCann of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and one infant brother, Wade Jones, preceded him in death.
The Rev. Jones pastored at West Side Missionary Baptist Church, taught at Dodds Elementary School until retiring in 2004 and previously served in the U.S. Air Force.
