Ronald Miller


Ronald L. Miller, 70, of Springfield, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at St. John's Hospital.



He was born in Mt. Vernon on May 6, 1939, the son of Charles A. and Dorothy (Degenhardt) Miller. His parents preceded him in death as well as a grandson, Travis Smith.



Ron attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He married Carol Dare in 1966.



A structural engineer, he worked at Truss Slater Company in Virden for many years. Earlier in his career, he was an inspecting engineer and worked on the Gateway Arch Project in St. Louis. He was an avid antique collector, especially toys and glass ware.



Ron was of the Catholic faith.



Surviving are his wife, Carol; his two daughters, Susan and husband Terry Lendy of Athens and Jodi and husband Floyd Schleyhahn, of Pawnee; his two sons, Michael and wife Tina Miller of O'Fallon, Mo., and Tim and wife Judi Miller of Springfield; his grandchildren, Caroline Lendy of Athens, Thomas McClain, and Molly Miller, both of O'Fallon, Mo., Troy and wife Maureen Smith of Ashland and Justin Tibbs of Greenville; and his great-grandson, Cody Smith of Ashland.



Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., where visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.



Graveside services will be privately held at 1 p.m. Monday in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
