Sarah Lenora Lee, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor Residential Center in Mt. Vernon.



She was born in Jefferson County on Wednesday, May 27, 1925, a daughter of Albert Earl and Lillian Omega (Bean) Stewart. She married Charles Wilbur Lee on Nov. 30, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1988.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Nathan Boldt officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County.



Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



Mrs. Lee is survived by two daughters, Sandra Minton and husband James of Mt. Vernon and Connie Lee of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Jeremy Minton and wife Kacey of Vienna and Jenna Minton-Smith of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews, along with a special foster great-grandson.



Her parents; her husband; her son, Monty Stewart Lee; one brother, Darold Stewart; and three sisters, Revanell Quinn, Margie Lomax and Norma McLaughlin, preceded her in death.



Sarah was a cook at Mt. Vernon Township High School for 25 years. She volunteered at the soup kitchen feeding the needy, was a member of South Hickory Hill Church, the Senior Circle and the “Cleohatras” group of the Red Hat Society. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing and quilting.
