Dorothy Ella Mae “Shorty” Watkins, 81, of Waltonville died at 8:21 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born May 4, 1928, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Joe and Rose (Williamson) Miller. She married George Watkins on Aug. 6, 1951, in Morganfield, Ky. and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2001.
Dorothy was retired from Vern-Wood Press in Mt. Vernon. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Linda Watkins-Hanna and husband Stuart of Waltonville; a sister, Geraldine McGrew of Dekalb; two granddaughters, Kayla Watkins and Melia Hanna, both of Waltonville; and two step-granddaughters, Abigail and Samantha Hanna, both of Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Josephine Norton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flint Cemetery in Belle Rive with Pastor Derek Downs officiating.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
