Hobart "Honey" Palmer


Hobart "Honey" Palmer, 78, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 9:19 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Jefferson County on Monday, Feb. 2, 1931, a son of William Hobart and Josephine (Shelton) Palmer. He married Dorothy Mulvaney on Feb. 9, 1967, in Mt. Vernon.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sursa Cemetery in Jefferson County with Father Wilbert Iffert officiation. Interment will follow.

There will be no visitation.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Dorothy Palmer of Mt. Vernon; five sons, David, Tommie, Jerry, Kevin and James; a brother, Len Palmer and wife Dottie Jo of Mt. Vernon; and two nephews.

His parents; one son, Johnny; one brother, James Palmer; one sister, Bettie Joan Palmer; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Dawn, preceded him in death.

“Honey” was a tool pusher in the oil fields prior to retiring and later repaired and resold lawnmowers and welders as a hobby; he had previously served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and was of the Baptist faith.
