John Puckett


John Gibson Puckett, 56, of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1953, in Chicago, the son of Ferrell L. Puckett and Kathryn Stockman Puckett Gerrish.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

John is survived by his father; three sons, John Paul Williams of Mt. Vernon, Charles G. Rossol of Williston, N.D. and David L. Puckett of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Kiplea Gilmore of Mt. Vernon and Katie Puckett of Opdyke; 11 grandchildren; sister, Cheryl Puckett Page of Mt. Vernon; and former wife Nancy Turner Puckett of Opdyke. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

John was an over the road trucker and lived most of his life in Mt. Vernon, but various jobs took him to other areas including Elgin, Ill., Sidney, Mont. and Downsville, La. He served in the United States Army and was a past member of A.B.A.T.E. He was an outdoorsman and truly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
