MT. VERNON —
While it is always a good idea to buckle up while driving or riding in a vehicle, authorities are offering added incentive this weekend. Illinois State Police, along with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will be targeting unbuckled drivers Memorial Day weekend with a goal of preventing injury and death during the busy holiday weekend.
Hundreds of safety belt enforcement zones will be established throughout the state, according to the organization’s Web site, buckleupillinois.org. Due to statistics pointing to evening travel being more deadly than daylight travel, authorities will stress nighttime enforcement.
All drivers, front-seat passengers and all passengers under the age of 19 are required to wear properly adjusted and fastened seat belts.
We hope you already buckle up while driving or riding. If not, this weekend would be a good time to start.
