A Reader's View: Who is protecting our military?

Editor:

We have the finest fighting forces in the world, a fact that has been proven in many wars during the history of our nation. They enforce national policies but do not make these policies. This is right and proper and is in conformance with our constitution.

When our policy makers make policies that endanger our military, or fail to make decisions concerning the employment of our military, our troops die. One of our top military commanding officers has asked for reinforcements in Afghanistan. He is risking his military career in doing so. It is not a happy experience to see the body bags going back when your troops are facing a larger force. The solution: Send additional troops and equipment or cut and run to the nearest exit. If the second option is taken, it will adversely affect the enlistment record, the reenlistment and the moral of our volunteer military forces for years to come.

A second military policy which will have an even more devastating effect on our voluntary military force is the promise of allowing homosexuals to join the military with no restrictions applied. The first problem of a commander will be to protect the homosexual from harm from the other troops. The next problem will be when reenlistment drops as unit moral decreases. The third problem will be enlistment rates which will decrease.

The solution: Establish a unit composed only of homosexuals. Solution two would be to initiate a draft. Solution three would be to observe an old adage which states, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

At Command and General Staff College, an instructor opined, “Even a dumb bell can be a good leader if he is smart enough to surround himself with a good staff.” He never told us what happened if you surround yourself with tax evaders and people of like ilk. The answer to the original question of who will protect our military, is that God and support from every veteran, mom and dads of military and every patriotic American in this fair land.
