We have routinely touted local shopping during the holiday season as well as year-round. It only makes sense to offer a local look when first searching for a service or product to purchase. The local benefit of that purchase will be felt through local tax dollars, support of local employees and in many instances local businesses inching further toward success.
The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce has adopted a “Shop It Here!” program that aims to literally drive home the need for local shopping to help sustain the economy in our immediate area. The bi-annual Chamber Business Expo, which kicks off today, is using the “Shop It Here!” slogan as a rallying cry for local consumers. “The Chamber is highlighting the benefits of shopping local and what it does for our local economy,” said Brandon Bullard, executive director of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. “Local businesses are the backbone of our economy.”
Seems like common sense. But it is nice to see the Chamber adopt a slogan to help in the effort. Please give local businesses an eye when shopping this holiday season.
