The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has announced its list of Illinois State Scholars, a recognition that honors students for their ranking in the top 10 percent of their senior class as well as achievement test scores.
Jefferson County is well-represented on the list. Mt. Vernon Township High School students named to the list include: Mallory Adams, Ayesha Akhtar, Cody Allen, Samantha Allen, Steven Beckham, Caitlin Bullock, Mollie Burdett, Brandon Calvert, Samuel Cortez, Alex Crisel, Blake Fields, Braden Hayse, Rya Heady, Lucas Hurst, Erica Kirsch, Trisha McPheeters, Ericka Opalecky, Priya Patel, Ben Payne, Dillon Payne, Amanda Pike, David Price, Alicia Sheldon, Alexander Taaka, Brett Tucker, Sarah Wagner, Paige Wallace, Darwin Walters and Tyler Weston, Christopher Williamson.
From Waltonville High School, both Whitney Laur and Kyle Mitchell were honored, as were Alexandria Edwards, Katelyn Patterson and Travis Tatlock from Woodlawn High School. Webber Township High School had the following students named to the list: Caitlyn Deuel, Kaisi Dye, Emily Marlow and Phillip Odell.
These young men and women deserve our congratulations for such an esteemed recognition.
