MT. VERNON —
Tonight, the Mt. Vernon City Council is expected to vote on a bid for construction of a overlay project along Shiloh Drive on the city’s west side. The project will improve the road from Illinois Route 15 east to the railroad tracks on Shiloh Drive, which will extend past the Rolland W. Lewis Industrial Park and the new U.S. Armed Forces Reserve Center.
Southern Illinois Asphalt submitted the bid accepted by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the city council tonight could give its nod, meaning work could begin within the next few weeks.
The overlay project is expected to take three to four weeks to complete, depending on the weather. We’re sure employees of Walgreen’s Distribution Center as well as operators of heavy trucks and equipment using the road will welcome the improvement.
