MT. VERNON —
Three Jefferson County area golfers ended the first round of the golf state finals in the top 20.
Hamilton County’s Landon Vaughan ended his opening round with a 1-under par 71 and is in second place. He enters today’s 1A final round one shot behind leader Nick McCall, who finished with a 70. Vaughan finished with three birdies and 13 pars over 18 holes.
Mt. Vernon’s Trevor Flota and Matthew Williams both shot a 78 in their first round and are tied for 17th in the 2A tournament. Both Rams golfers are six shot behind leader Adam Baracani, who finished with a 72.
Williams finished with a birdie and 10 pars. Flota had one birdie and 11 pars.
Also in the 1A tournament, Hamilton County’s Marc Cox is tied for 65th after an opening round of 85. He finished the round with seven pars.
