Lady Rams advance to title game

NASHVILLE — Mt. Vernon’s girls basketball team advanced to the championship of the Nashville Tournament with a pair of wins Friday.

The Lady Rams opened the day with a 67-41 win against Mascoutah.

Haley Lockhart led the team with 25 points. Aaliyah Palmer added 13, and Hannah Owens was in double figures with 10. Claire Ryan and Kelby Kujawa added seven points each.

Mt. Vernon knocked down eight 3-pointers in the game.

The Lady Rams beat Freeburg 65-39. Lockhart again led the team in scoring. This time she poured in 28. Palmer finished with 11, and Ryan added eight. Courtney Scarbrough had seven.

Owens finished with 13 rebounds.

Mt. Vernon is 3-0 this season and plays at 8 p.m. tonight against Nashville.
