MT. VERNON — It was a beautiful day to be in the pool on Saturday as the King City Flippers hosted the annual Larry Jukes Freestyle Invitational.
The Flippers welcomed six teams to Mt. Vernon including Salem, Centralia, Du Quoin, and McLeansboro, just to name a few.
It was a long day for the swimmers with 83 events taking place during the day long event with the Flippers taking first place in 15 events during the day.
In the girls' 10&Under; 100 Meter Freestyle, Cheyenna Rhine won with a time of 1:16.06.
She also placed first in the girls' 10-10 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 34.28 and the 10-10 25 Meter Freestyle at an even 16 seconds.
Nathaniel Groh won the boys' 12-12 100 Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:17.44. He was also first in the 12-12 50 Meter Freestyle at 33.66 and the 12-12 25 Meter Freestyle with a time of 15.49.
Isabel Heitmeyer was first in the girls' 8-8 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 38.59. She was first in the 8-8 25 Meter Freestyle with a time of 17.42.
Aaron Holt was the winner of the 15-15 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 27.16. Holt was first in the 15-15 25 Meter Freestyle with a time of 12.56.
Hannah Owens was first in the girls' 11-11 25 Meter Freestyle with a time of 16.53.
Sabrina Durham took the top spot in the girls' 13-13 25 Meter Freestyle after posting a time of 15.85, while Mallory Hapeman won the 15-15 25 Meter Freestyle with a time of 15.70.
A pair of King City relay teams took first place honors at Saturday's meet, including the 8&Under; 100 Meter Freestyle, followed by the 11-12 boys' 200 Meter Freestyle Relay.
The foursome of Hannah Heitmeyer, Alyssa Walker, Haleigh Harpole, and Isabel Heitmeyer took first in the 8&Under; with a time of 1:35.12.
In the 200 Meter relay, Kole Cralley, Harry Heitmeyer, Crayton Turner, and Nathaniel Groh finished in the time of 2:41.29.
The Flippers are scheduled to compete against Herrin on July 8.
