The JCSA Orange Shock 12 and under traveling softball team picked up a 12-0 short-game win over Carterville in the opening round of the Bronco Pony Region play at Marion Sunday.
Orange Shock scored eight runs in the first and two in the second and third to pick up the win and advance in the tournament.
Kelby Kujawa threw three innings. She allowed one hit, walked one and struck out three.
Paige Tufts had three singles. Payton Tufts finished with a double, while Summer Hobson, Summer Karch, Kujawa, Lindsey Wielt, Rachel Kirsch all had singles.
The Orange Shock are now 18-14-1 and will play Benton next in the tournament.
• Before competing in Pony tournament action, the JCSA Orange Shock took third at the West Frankfort Invitational with an 11-7 win over the host West Frankfort.
The Orange Shock lost to Elkville, 8-6, in the semifinal round, which set up their matchup with West Frankfort.
In the semifinals, the O/S and Elkville were tied 4-4 before Elkville scored three times in the top of the seventh, while Orange Shock could only muster two runs in the home half of the seventh.
Kaitlyn Simmons threw all seven innings for the loss. She struck out eight and walked three, while giving up eight hits on the day.
The Orange Shock did commit six errors to Elkville's none.
Paige Tufts had a single and a double, while Summer Hobson had a double.
Payton Tufts, Amanda Scott, Lindsey Wielt, and Rachel Kirsch all singled in the loss.
In the third-place game, O/S broke through with four runs in the bottom of the second, as well as a four spot in the fourth and two more in the fifth to hold off West Frankfort.
Kelby Kujawa went all six innings in giving up nine hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Payton Tufts had a triple, while Kujawa had three singles.
Paige Tufts, Lindsey Wielt, Rachel Kirsch, Kaitlyn Simmons all had two hits in the game.
