MT. VERNON — The Woodlawn Grade School softball team needed eight hits and took advantage of a half a dozen miscues by Summersville to come away with a 16-4 victory in five innings at Quality Times in Mt. Vernon Monday night.
Chandler Scarbrough was 3 for 5 with a double and two runs batted in. Allison England finished with a double and RBI while going 2 for 4 at the plate.
Summersville got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning, but Woodlawn outscored the Lady Wildcats, 9-0, in the second and third innings.
Summersville responded in the home half of the third inning with two more runs to cut Woodlawn's lead to 9-4.
Cassandra Lueking finished 1 for 3 with a two-run home run, while Myka Garner was 1 for 3.
But Woodlawn responded by putting the game out of reach with a seven spot in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 16-4.
Catherine Coleman was 1 for 3. Paige Tufts, Alexa Capps, and Heather Gomora all had an RBI.
Carly Ethridge was the winning pitcher. She threw five inning, while allowing two hits, three earned runs, seven strike outs and walking eight.
Allie Sledge was the losing pitching on the evening.
Woodlawn is now 3-1 and will play Friday and Saturday in the Centralia Tournament.
