DECATUR — The Rend Lake College tennis team went 3-1 to open its fall season Friday at the Dorothy McClure Tournament hosted by Millikin University in Decatur.
Six teams competed — RLC, Millikin U, Concordia U, North Central College, Greenville College, and Lewis and Clark College — in a round robin format where the northern three schools, Millikin, Concordia and North Central, played the southern three. Rend Lake's top six players were pitted against their counterparts from Millikin, Concordia and North Central in singles matches.
To start the day with a 5-1 win over Millikin, RLC's Ashley Alvey (Poseyville, Ind.) won 8-1, Chelsie Thomason (Salem) lost 6-8, Abby Blair (Salem) won 9-7, Alex Wilson (Mt. Vernon) won 8-3, Dawn Feezer (Mt. Vernon) won 8-3 and Sara Brose (Benton) won 8-0.
RLC shut out Concordia 6-0 - Alvey (8-3), Thomason (8-3), Blair (8-4), Wilson (8-4), Feezer (8-1) and Brose (8-0).
In their final matches, the ladies from the lake fell to North Central, 1-5. Feezer won her match 8-3. Alvey lost 1-8, Thomason 2-8, Blair 2-8, Wilson 3-8 and Brose 2-8.
RLC netters will be back on the court at 2 p.m. Sunday for the USTA Franklin County League tournament in Mt. Vernon.
