OLNEY — Wayne City's Jayce Smith finished third at the Olney Tiger cross country meet Tuesday in a time of 18:15 to lead the Indians to a third place finish.
Olney took first with a 43. Lawrenceville placed second at 46, followed by Wayne City at 79. Fairfield was fourth with 81. Mt. Carmel had a 101 and Webber did not field a complete team.
Joe Evans was sixth with a time of 18:53. Gage Crabtree was 13th with a time of 19:22. Blake Crabtree was 32nd at the meet with a time of 22:25. Ian Buckanan (23:39) finished in 34th and Billy Hatfield (23:56) was 35th.
Josh Bergbower placed eighth at the meet with a time of 18:57 to lead Webber.
• In the Olney girls' race, Olney finished with 17 points to win the team event. Lawrenceville (40) was the only other team out of the six teams to compete that had a team score.
Webber's Danielle Snow finished third in the event and was the only Webber representative at the event with a time of 23:08.
Wayne City was led by Torri Withrow's time of 24 minutes. Emily Hatfield was 11th with a time of 26:48.
• Jayce Smith was Wayne City's top finisher at the Carterville Invitational at John A. Logan College with a sixth place showing and a time of 16:42.
Gage Crabtree was 17th with a time of 17:26. Haden Smith was 22nd with a time of 17:30. Joe Evans was 28th with a time of 17:38.5.
Also, Blake Crabtree was 85th in a time of 19:44. Billy Hatfield was 136th with a time of 23:58.
For the girls, Torri Withrow was 12th in a time of 20:39, while Emily Hatfield was 70th at 25:13.
