Knight top Woodlawn
BREESE — The Breese-Mater Dei Knights proved to be a formidable foe, defeating the Woodlawn Cardinals, 66-34, in Friday boys basketball action.
The Cardinals (2-3) fell behind 13-8 after one period of play, then 31-17 by halftime.
“We were disappointing at both ends of the floor,” said Cardinal coach Shane Witzel. "Hopefully we will learn from that. The kids gave a good effort, but we lost our edge.”
By the end of the third quarter, Mater Dei led 44-29.
“They are a good basketball team,” said Witzel. “There is no doubt about that.”
Kirk Dunbar led the Cardinals with nine points. Casey Hammond finished with eight, while Bryan Johnson added seven.
Woodlawn hosts Okawville on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
