CARBONDALE —
Mt. Vernon’s girls tennis team finished second in the South Seven Conference tournament Saturday.
Carbondale won the conference title with 26 points, and the Lady Rams finished with 19. Other team scores were: Belleville Althoff 16, Marion 15, Centralia 14 and Cahokia 0.
“It was a good team effort as everyone contributed to our strong finish,” Mt. Vernon coach Randy Knox said.
Marisa Uhls placed third in No. 1 singles. Jade Knox finished first at No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles player Katie Wall was second in her flight. Gauri Kaushal finished third in No. 4 singles.
The Lady Rams top doubles team of Kayla Burk and Liz Hurst was fourth. The No. 2 team of Amanda Scott and Abigail Winkler placed third.
Mt. Vernon starts playoff action Friday in the Carbondale sectional.
