CHICAGO (AP) — A proposed settlement going before Chicago's City Council in the coming week would award $4.1 million to the family of a man shot dead by police officers even though he was unarmed and lying on the ground.
It would be the latest multi-million dollar blow to Chicago taxpayers, a month after aldermen voted to pay out $33 million to settle two other cases of police misconduct.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/UMsXjI ) that the City Council is expected to approve the settlement with the family of Flint Farmer in the coming week.
Officers responding to a domestic abuse call in June 2011, shot Farmer multiple times. A squad car video showed one of the officers shooting him three more times at point-blank range while Farmer was lying on the ground.
