BELLWOOD (AP) – Authorities say several cars of a Union Pacific freight train coming from California have derailed in the Chicago suburb of Bellwood.
No injuries were reported in Sunday’s derailment.
Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange says eight refrigerated rail cars were off the tracks. Five of the cars were on their sides and three others derailed upright.
He says two cars leaked diesel fuel, but the leak has been contained and no waterways are affected. Lange says cleanup is under way. There is no estimate of how long it will take.
The train had 71 rail cars total and all contained produce. Officials say commuter trains are able to run on another track.
