CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — A prosecutor in east-central Illinois says he agreed to reduce the charge against a Mattoon woman accused of sexually abusing a girl because it was a "one-time incident."
The (Charleston) Times-Courier (http://bit.ly/Pdjfht ) reports that 22-year-old Emily Bryant pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal sexual abuse. She was accused of performing a sex act in October with a then-13-year-old girl.
Assistant State's Attorney Tom Bucher dismissed felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Bucher says the evidence made him think that Bryant made a mistake and isn't likely to reoffend.
A judge sentenced Bryant to two years of probation. Bryant will be required to get counseling, and she'll be required to register as a convicted sex offender for the next 10 years.
