JCOIF honored at Carterville

The Illinois Army National Guard recognized the Jefferson County Operation Iraqi Freedom Committee at the Freedom Salute ceremony at Carterville High School on Feb. 6. The Illinois Army National Guard presented the committee with a flag picture in appreciation for their work to provide PX gift cards to troops in the war zone. Those from the committee attending the ceremony were, front row from left, Joan Mandrell, Joyce Poorman and David Keen; back row from left are Bernie Dickneite, Don Bigham and Brandon Bullard, representing the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Third grade students at Bluford Grade School proudly display a “check” for $1,900 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. K-12 students at Bluford’s schools have been collecting loose change the last three weeks to raise money for the hospital.
