Chamber celebrates successful year

MT. VERNON — The last Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce luncheon of the year included a visit from Santa and a few song selections from the Mt. Vernon Township High School concert choir.

Executive Director for Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce  Brandon Bullard, said 2012 was a good year for the Chamber.

About 40 new members joined the Chamber and Bullard said he is looking forward to bigger and better things for the Chamber and its members in the coming year.

“Last year was wonderful,” Bullard said. “As long as the Chamber continues to work on its mission... 2013 will be better. We are growing. The city of Mt. Vernon has a lot of positive things that are going to be announced.”

Bullard said Chamber members can look forward to some major announcements and some wonderful expansion opportunities.

Those attending the luncheon also held a moment of silence to honor the shooting victims from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. The United Way had buttons for sale with the school colors, which were a dollar each. The money will be donated to the Sandy Hook Relief Fund and the United Way chapter in Newtown. The winner of the 50/50 raffle donated the money to the United Way for its relief efforts and $343 was collected.

“The world was rocked last week by the tragedy,” Bullard said. “We as a community wanted to do what we can to help.”

Chamber members also heard a selection of songs from the MVTHS concert choir. The selections included “The Monotone Angel,” “The 12 Days After Christmas” and “Oseh Shalom,” a Hebrew song which was sung in Hebrew.

Santa dropped by for a visit as well and had prepared a poem about the Chamber members.
