Arrest made in bank robberies

MT. VERNON — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the bank robberies at Fifth Third Bank and GenFed Credit Union in Mt. Vernon.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Mendenall, an Urbana man has been arrested in Florida in connection with the robberies. Willie Franklin, 37, was taken into custody in Florida Wednesday morning, the chief said.

Ready to honor

Members of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141, its auxiliary and the Heartland Young Marines placed crosses at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
