MT. VERNON — — Bishop Edward Braxton and priests of the Diocese of Belleville helped parishioners of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with the dedication of their new worship center on Sunday afternoon. The bishop blessed a fountain of water and offered a prayer of dedication for the church, which was its near capacity of 180 on Sunday. The Rev. John Iffert is the current church pastor, which has been operating in Mt. Vernon for 147 years. Poettker Construction was the general contractor on the project.
