Woodlawn Homecoming

Woodlawn High School has announced the 2009-10 Homecoming candidates and attendants. The theme for this year’s dance is “Here’s to the Night” and will be held Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. with coronation at 7 p.m. Pictured are, front row: Freshman attendants, Logan Isaac, Sabrina Durham, Paige Tufts and Ty Coleman; second row: Sophomore attendants, Nick Tannahill, Alex Knecht, Ben Klebba and Erica Benjamin; junior attendants, Brook Mitchell, Josh Robinson, Kortney Hug and Jeremy Aparicio; and back row: Senior king and queen candidates, Kirk Dunbar, Cassie Hollenkamp, Christian McNeil, Sara Dent, Casey Hammond, Taylor Sprehe, John Cavender and Allie Turner.

Heart Night

Good Samaritan Regional Health Center Cardiologist Dr. Brian Jones shows a catheterization of a heart, in which dye is used to detect any blockages. Jones was the speaker at the second Women’s Heart Night. At least 200 people attended the event.

  • Ellis Willie J. "Bill" Ellis

    Willie J. "Bill"  Ellis, 85, of Du Quoin and a former resident of Mt. Vernon died 1:45 a.m. Wednesday,  Feb. 8, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
    Willie was born September 5, 1926  in Lilbourn, Missouri, the son of John E. and Alice Myrtle (Hicks) Ellis. He first married Edna M. (Crunk) on Sept. 3, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1990. He later married Lorene (Porro) O'Rourke on Feb. 14, 1993, in Du Quoin,  IL. She survives in Du Quoin.
